HAND-PAINTED WALLCOVERING

TRADITIONAL METHODS

The Chinese tradition of hand-stitching and hand-painting dates back over 1,500 years, beginning with the Ming Dynasty. By the 18th century, the style was widely used by English and French nobility, including Louis XIV who displayed Chinoiserie wallcoverings in Versailles palace. Our artists today still employ these same methods, upholding a long history of high quality. Using a traditional lamination method, a handmade paper backing is attached to silk fabric creating a fresh canvas. Stretched over a wooden loom, custom designs are hand-painted or hand-stitched with naturally dyed silk threads.
