Fabric Cleaning Guidelines

Polyester fabrics may be cleaned with most conventional upholstery cleaning systems. The following are general recommendations for polyester fabric only. Some fabric cleaning methods may cause damage to underlying materials in seating systems. Contact the chair manufacturer for recommendations and precautions prior to attempting any of the following procedures.

General Care and Maintenance

Vacuum the fabric periodically using appropriate upholstery attachment to remove accumulated dirt and dust.
The frequency of this and any other routine maintenance is determined by end use conditions.
Treat spots and stains promptly.
To clean dirty areas, it is best to spot-clean using appropriate cleaning agents
Have the fabric professionally cleaned whenever large stains or an overall soiled condition occurs

Caution: In any case of cleaning do not over agitate the area. Before using any detergent or cleaning product, do read and follow the manufacturer’s recommendations. When using the correct products, the chemistry should do most of the work. Scrubbing, scraping, and over agitating stain areas may distort the fabric and permanently damage the area.

Code S Care

Spot clean using only pure, water-free solvent cleaners. Solvents are used to break down soiled oily spots and leave the area dry.
Do not use water-based or detergent-based solvents as they may cause shrinking, leave permanent water rings, or damage the fabric.
Do not apply cleaning agent directly to the area; apply to the cloth or sponge.
Follow the guidelines given under the ‘Spot Cleaning and Stain Treatment’ section.

Code W Care

Spot clean with water-based foam or upholstery cleaner.
Use plain white towels when cleaning to avoid transfer of any color dye onto the furniture.
Using a soft brush or sponge, apply warm, soapy water to the stain.
Do not get the furniture wet.
Follow the guidelines given under the ‘Spot Cleaning and Stain Treatment’ section.

Code WS Care

Water-based foam or upholstery cleaner, or cleaning solvent may be used on different spots.
For oily areas, solvents are to be used and for water-based stains, water-based cleaning agents are to be used.
Do not saturate with liquids. Do not get the furniture wet.
Follow the guidelines given under the ‘Spot Cleaning and Stain Treatment’ section.

Spot Cleaning and Stain Treatment Guidelines

Treat stains quickly.
Never let a spill settle too long as it might penetrate the surface, which might be difficult to remove later.
Blot up spills with a clean, colorfast, absorbent cloth, tissue, or sponge.
Blot the spill switching to a new section of the cloth each time to avoid reapplying the stain to the area being cleaned.
Remove solid or semi-solid substances using a flat object.
Before applying any cleaner to the soiled area, test a small, hidden area first to ensure there are no adverse effects to the color or texture of the fabric.
Several less concentrated applications are less damaging than one concentrated application.
Use light, quick strokes and start from the outside of the stain and work towards the center.
Do not use heat; heat will set the stain.
Do not over wet as this may leave a ring.
Soak up any remaining cleaning solution as residual cleaning agents may accelerate soiling.
Allow fabric to dry thoroughly.
Brush over the area or vacuum well to restore the original texture.
